During an 11 month market approach on behalf of HollyStar (now known as Sky in the Swiss market) our team gained first-hand experience of most of the major players, alongside would-be market entrants and the major diversified conglomerates in the US, Europe, Asia, Africa and South America.

Following a global search, Sky Deutschland (21st Century Fox) one of the largest media groups in the world, was selected from a number of bidders to enter the due diligence phase. As a result of the acquisition HollyStar is today a Swiss market leader delivering high quality film and series viewing. Sky subsequently launched Sky Sport as an OTT service in Switzerland

Eric Grignon, CEO of Hollystar, said that being part of Sky Deutschland was good nws for Swiss sports, film and series fans. Hollystar will benefit from access to Sky’s rights portfolio, as well as its expertise and record of innovation.

The acquisition is Sky’s latest push into OTT TV distribution internationally, following the launch of low-cost OTT services in Germany and Italy on the model of Now TV in the UK, and its recent involvement with Cisco in the creation of OnPrime TV, a service aimed at migrant and expatriate groups that is available in the UK, Germany and Italy.
